We're pleased to announce that the Society was named the winner for its income category in a national competition for charities that publish their annual reports and account online, at an awards ceremony held in London on 30 June 2011.
The annual Charities Online Financial Reporting Awards are run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales. Open to all UK based charities the awards encourage charities to publish their annual report and accounts online as well as reward innovative and outstanding reporting.
Charities’ annual reports are assessed by a judging panel for compliance with technical and legislative requirements as well as additional criteria including ease of availability, clarity, web-friendliness, accessibility and impact.
Aberdeen Strathspey & Reel Society was the winner in the category for the smallest charities, those with an income up to £250,000 - though the Society’s annual income is less than 10% of that level. The prize included a donation to the Society of £3,000, a certificate, a seal to display on their website and valuable feedback from the judging panel.
The judges said "Aberdeen Strathspey & Reel Society provided a really interactive website with good explanations of what financial tables and graphs represented in real terms. The judges were particularly impressed by the analytical review embedded as notes into the accounts. Overall the website encompassed many of the elements the judges have been trying to encourage as ‘best practice’ in on-line reporting and Aberdeen was a worthy winner."
The winning report is for the year ended 28 February 2010 and more information about the awards is available from www.icaew.com/cofra.
